How to Worship Lord Kubera

Lord Kubera, also known as Kuvera or Kuber, is the God of Wealth and closely associated with Goddess Lakshmi. He is also the God-King of the semi-divine Yakshas, Rakshasas, the Guhyakas, Kinnaras, and Gandharvas, in the Hindu culture. He is the Regent of the North (Dikpal) and the Protector of the World (Lokpal). Many of his epithets portray him as the Overlord/ Ruler of countless semi-divine species and as the owner of all the treasures the world has to offer.

He was described as the chief of evil spirits in the texts of Vedic era. However, in the Puran(s) and the ancient Hindu epics, he was described as a God. He was depicted with a stocky body adorned with jewels, and carries a club and a money-pot. Lord Kubera was described as being the ruler of Lanka, but was overthrown by his half-brother Ravan. He later settled in the city of Alaka in the Himalayas.

Because he is the treasurer of the Gods, he lent money to the Gods. He also lent money and riches to Venkateshwar (a reincarnation of Lord Vishnu) for his marriage with Padmavati. Keeping this in mind, it became the reason for the devotees to go to Tirupati to donate money in the Hundi (donation pot) of Venkateshwar. The devotees want to do this so that Venkateshwar can pay it back to Lord Kubera.
