What Navratri Is All About?

Simplifying the name of the festival, Navratri translates from two Sanskrit words “Nava” and “Ratri”. Where Nava translates to “Nine” and Ratri to “Night”. During all 9 days of this festival, devotees worship Goddess Durga in her nine most powerful forms as she defeats Mahishasur. This legend has given her the name of Mahishasuramardini.

According to the Hindu texts- Vaishnava Purana and Shakta, four or two seasons of Navratri are celebrated, each having their significance. Devotees celebrate the festival by worshiping the goddess, adapting fasts, and following a religious pattern in honor of the Goddess.
