Significance Of Saavan Shivratri 2024: The Story Behind The Festival
The festival holds great importance in the hearts of devotees who are dedicated to Lord Shiva. According to mythological stories, Shiv is the supreme deity of destruction and transformation.
During the churning of the cosmic ocean, world destroying poison was obtained along with ‘Amrit’, the potion of everlasting life. There were also many treasures which were divided cleverly between gods and demons. Everyone was afraid when they obtained the world destroying poison as neither the gods nor the demons could take it. It would’ve ended their lives.
But if someone did not drink the poison, it would’ve ended the world. Rightly symbolising his role as the protector and destroyer of the universe, Lord Shiv drank the poison and kept it at his throat. As a result, his throat turned blue and he was then known as Neel Kanth. So, book special pujas online with us and pay your respects to the almighty Lord Shiva.
