She was a pious and chaste woman and got married to a demon named Jalandhar. Then Lord Vishnu disguised himself as Jalandhar and broke the chastity of Tulasi Devi which weakened the Demon Jalandhar’s powers resulting in his defeat in the ongoing battle. After learning the truth, Devi was devastated and miserable out of betrayal. She cursed Lord Vishnu to turn into a stone named Shaligram and wander the earth in its very form.

Later Lord Vishnu met her in the same form and explained to her the circumstances of the situation and ensured her not to be abandoned and own up to the connection they had and give her the eternal sacracy of Devi Tulasi as a sacred plant.
