Ganesh Chaturthi Puja is one of the prominent festivals eagerly celebrated by the Hindus all over India and abroad. Ganesh Chaturthi is a festival celebrated for 10 days, marking the birth of God Ganesh, the son of Parvati and Shiva, and has an elephant head.
Ganesh is the god of wisdom, good luck and prosperity. He is worshipped before starting any new ventures and before doing any good things to gain his blessings. The online puja is done with great fanfare, pomp and show along with mouthwatering food preparations.
Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated in the month of Bhadrapad on the fourth day (Chaturthi) of Shukla Paksh or the bright phase of the lunar month. Lord Ganesh puja is celebrated especially in Maharashtra, by cleaning the house before the arrival of the festival.
Pictures or idols are used for the worship, cleaning them first and decorating them with various sacred items- including but not limited to clothing, jewelry, Mukut (head wear) etc. The idols are usually brought fresh every year if they’re made of clay, turmeric or natural ingredients.
The idol of Ganesh is placed on a raised platform covered with cloth or in the puja room; a Rangoli (floor decoration) is made in front of the altar and then the idol of Ganesh is given a holy bath on a Paraat (plate). The bath is usually given using rose water, sandal paste, coconut water, honey, Panchamrit, and other materials.
The idol is wiped dry and decorated with sandal paste, vermilion, clothing, ornaments, flowers, and garlands. Then the Ganesh Chaturthi Puja online is done as the mantras are chanted by an online pujari, and Pushpaanjali is offered at the feet of the idol.
