King Kesari, son of God Brihaspati, was the king of Sumeru and Hanuman’s father. He married Anjana on Earth, but even though the couple was happy, they were childless.
Hence, Queen Anjana decided to undergo a tough penance for 12 years and she devoted herself to Lord Shiv during this period. After the period was over, she was blessed with a child. They named him Maruti and later on, he became known as Lord Hanuman.
