Keesaragutta Temple : Keesaragutta is a small village which is 30-40 kilometers from Hyderabad in the state of Telangana. It is the mandal headquarters of Shamirpet in Keesara revenue division. Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Siva and his consorts Bhavani and Sivadurga.

About the Temple:

The temple at Keesaragutta is known as Ramalingeshwara Temple,as lord Sri Rama had installed the lingam. A peaceful place and and scenic views of distant hyderabad. The temple except on Shivaratri days and during the Karthika month is not very crowded and one make a very peaceful stay perform abshikams. There are 101 lingas of varying heights within the temple complex.One can see the scattered shiva laingas around the temple hill.

Sri Ramalingeswara Swamy Temple, Keesara Gutta is located on the hillock. Vehicles can go upto the hillock. Gutta meaning rock.Over the years, the name has been transformed as Keesara and the hillock as Keesaragutta. On the rock, there are many Siva Lingas scattered around the temple. The important festival is the Sivarathri, and the people, not only from Twin cities, from different places throng the place to worship the Lord.

The scenic beauty around the temple is very fine and one can spend a half day without any difficulty. There is Vedic Patashala (school) in this area and there are Engineering colleges too in this locality.Praying to Shiva Linga helps elevate the consciousness of the devotee and helps in gaining the supreme knowledge. Ram and Ravana from the well known “Ramayana” were the great devotees of Lord Shiva. Devotees also call Shiva as “Bholenath”.

Monkeys are very familiar around at this hillock. Temple is a very calm and beautiful place, far from the city. the temple itself brings peace at heart. Monsoon is the best time. lots of devotees and tourists visit the Sri Ramalingeswara Swamy Temple on Shivaratri and karthika masam.

During kaarthikamaasam (lord shiva’s favorite month) the temple is a bit crowded but will get a great darshan . The temple attracts thousands of devotees on Shivaratri. The priests at the temple proudly say that the rituals the temple follows were laid by Lord Rama himself.

About The Deity:

Shiva is one of the most revered deity in Hinduism. He is one of the three main Gods Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh, the trio were considered to be responsible for everything in this world. Shiva is also represented in the form of “Linga” or “Lingam” representing phallus, the symbol of power. In Sanskrit, linga means “symbol” or mark and hence Lord Shiva is also worshipped in the form of Shiva Linga.

Shiva Linga is believed to that it speaks to the devotee in the language of silence. ShivaLinga is usually either Black or White in color and made in marble. Though shape varies but usually it is oval in shape. Shiva Linga represents the immense power of Lord Shiva which is believed to be guarding and guiding this universe.

Linga states that creation is effected by the union of ‘Prakriti’ and ‘Purusha,’ the female and male powers of Nature. Linga also signifies ‘Satya,’ ‘Jnana’ and ‘Ananta’ which is Truth, knowledge and Infinity.

Ways to visit the Temple :

Keesaragutta Temple is thirty to forty kilometers approx distance from Hyderabad. A pleasant visit well connected by buses from Secunderabad station. It goes via Taranaka, Nacharam, ECIL x roads, Kushaiguda, Rampalli areas.
