Ganga Dussehra, also known as Gangavataran in Hindu tradition, commemorates the descent of the sacred river Ganges from the heavenly realm to Earth. Hindus believe that on this auspicious day, the divine Ganges blessed the earthly realms with its presence. This significant festival is held on the tenth day of the waxing moon in the Hindu calendar month of Jyeshtha. The celebrations last ten days, including the nine days leading up to this divine occasion.
Dussehra stands for the ten auspicious Vedic calculations signifying Ganga’s ability to wash ten sins associated with thoughts, speech, and actions. The ten Vedic calculations are Jyeshtha month, Shukla Paksha, Tenth day, Thursday, Hasta Nakshatra, Siddha Yoga, Gar-Anand Yoga, Moon in Virgo, and Sun in Tauras. It is believed that if devotees pray on this day, they will achieve salvation. The day is favorable for purchasing valuables, new vehicles, and purchasing or moving into a new home. Devotees who recite the Ganga Stotra on this day while standing in the Ganges are purified of all sins. Also, if you want to have a different puja in your home, you can easily book online Hindu puja services with the online temple for your puja ritual, proper chanting mantras, and divine blessings.
